Encircled by two miles of Roman and Medieval walls, Chester is one of England’s historical gems and has proved to be a very popular destination with our customers.

Situated on the River Dee, close to the Welsh border, Chester has 2000 years of history and is one of Britain’s Heritage Cities with a compact city centre easy to explore on foot. Chester displays fine examples of architecture from throughout the ages. It began life as a Roman fort, and the impressive medieval walls surrounding the city in part sit upon genuine Roman foundations. Its main shopping streets feature the unique two-tiered black-and-white clad medieval shopping galleries known as ‘The Rows’, which today offer an eclectic range of designer boutiques, restaurants and tearooms.

Don’t miss the magnificent 1000-year-old Cathedral, the Roman Amphitheatre and make sure to stroll through beautiful Grosvenor Park beside the River Dee. Why not take a pleasure boat trip?

Returning to one of our best sellers for 2026!! Following a recent refurbishment we are returning to the Holiday Inn Chester South. Clean modern facilities with a nice lobby and bar area. The hotel is located out of town - around 10 minutes by taxi if required. This terrific holiday includes a guided coach tour of Chester with plenty of free time, a day exploring Liverpool, and a day in pretty Llangollen including a memorable canal cruise. Great fun and fantastic value!

DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 8.00/9.30am, settle back and relax in one of our comfortable touring coaches as we head North to Chester. With a comfort stop and a main stop for lunch before arriving at the hotel late afternoon, around 4.30/5.00pm. Settle into your room and relax before dinner – 3 course dinner with choice of menu.

DAY 2
Enjoy a leisurely start to your stay with an extensive hot buffet breakfast at the hotel. During the morning, board the coach and head in to the centre of Chester where our tour guide will hop on for a fascinating historic commentary on this remarkable city. Great way to learn about the amazing history of this city of the ages and discover sights you can then explore more fully! Some excellent shopping and so many places to find somewhere nice lunch. Coach returning to collect later or you are free to return to the hotel at your leisure.

DAY 3
Fantastic excursion today! Enjoy an excellent breakfast before we head out. We have a memorable day out in the charming Welsh town of Llangollen. Leaving the hotel after breakfast, we head out into some wonderful countryside including the stunning Horseshoe Pass before arriving. We first board our canal boat from picturesque Llangollen Wharf and enjoy two hours of peaceful cruising through the stunning Dee Valley, which has been awarded World Heritage Status. 

On departure we have included a Sandwich Platter with a choice of Cheese, Cheese & Ham, Ham, Tuna Mayo or Egg Mayo on white or brown bread served with salad and crisps!! Make your selection! 

Our canal boat, the Thomas Telford, is fully weatherproof and fitted with comfortable seats - specially designed for sitting back and taking in outstanding views. On route enjoy a full commentary to help you understand more about the area’s rich heritage and thriving wildlife and there is also an inviting bar for drinks and also toilet facilities. The journey finishes by travelling over the famous and thrilling Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford in 1805 and unsurpassed to this day in its simplicity and engineering achievement. Our coach will meet you at the end and we return to Llangollen for free time to explore and soak in the heritage of this charming town. Lovely day out.

DAY 4
Excellent excursion today as we are joined by a knowledgeable local guide for a tour of the city of Liverpool. Discover the vibrant maritime city of the city on this enjoyable and informative coach excursion. On arrival, sit back and relax as our knowledgeable local guide joins the coach for a fascinating panoramic tour, bringing the city’s rich history and culture to life. Travel past the world-famous Royal Albert Dock, admire the grandeur of St George’s Hall, and see the iconic waterfront dominated by the Royal Liver Building. Hear stories of Liverpool’s maritime heritage, musical legacy, and sporting pride as you pass landmarks linked to The Beatles and the city’s two famous football clubs.

Following the guided tour, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace. Browse the shops, visit cafés along the dockside, or simply soak up the lively atmosphere of this friendly and characterful city before rejoining the coach for the return journey home.

DAY 5
We head home with comfort stops before arriving back to your local drop off point around 5.00pm

Holiday Inn Chester South

We have been staying at this hotel for many years. This 3* Hotel offers comfortable and spacious accommodation and is situated on the southern edge of Chester allowing easy excursion opportunities. The centre of Chester is only 3 miles away so only a short taxi ride if required. Having recently undergone an extensive refurbishment enjoy the clean modern decor throughout.  

The hotel offers 145 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms - walk in showers in standard rooms - air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire hotel. Again, all rooms and bathrooms have recently been refurbished so look forward to a comfy mattress, choice of pillows, satellite TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and bathroom amenities.

The Open Lobby Bar and reception look great and you can order food and drink here throughout the day. The Junction Restaurant has lovely views over the Welsh Mountains and in the evening enjoy a 3 course dinner with choice of menu. 

The hotel is low level but an accessible hotel lift is available to use to gain access to the bedrooms and restaurant. There are a few steps to negotiate in the restaurant. 

As a hotel guest you have access to the You Fit Health Club, offering a 15m heated swimming pool, sauna and spa pool.
