Join our break to this outstanding Brend Hotel for a touch of luxury in the centre of Barnstaple.

Lying on the River Taw, Barnstaple is the largest town in North Devon with a history extending back to King Aethelstan. Once a major port, Barnstaple is a old market town with a partly pedestrianised centre, historic buildings, charming streets and alleys and a traditional Pannier Market. The dramatic, rugged coastline of the North Devon Coast, where the cliffs seem to dive in to the sea is quite stunning and on a clear day you can see over to South Wales. The stunning Exmoor National Park with its spectacular scenery is also close by with a host of other terrific excursion destinations to explore in the region.

But, as nice as the area is, this holiday is really all about the hotel! You don't pay this sort of money without excepting something special, and Brend's Imperial Hotel delivers something very special!!

Comforts stops as required and a main stop for lunch before arriving mid/late afternoon with time to settle in to your room and relax before enjoying tonight's quality dinner.

DAY 2
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel before we depart for todays lovely excursion. Enjoy the spectacular North Devon scenery as we head for the twin coastal gems of Lynmouth and Lynton, where dramatic scenery, Victorian heritage and seaside charm combine. Nestled at the foot of towering cliffs on the edge of Exmoor, Lynmouth welcomes visitors with its picturesque harbour, riverside setting and level promenade — perfect for a gentle stroll. Quaint cafés, traditional tearooms and independent shops line the waterfront, offering plenty of opportunities to relax and soak up the views. The village’s fascinating history, including the story of the great 1952 flood, adds a poignant and interesting dimension to your visit. Connecting Lynmouth to its clifftop neighbour is the remarkable Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, the highest and steepest fully water-powered railway in the world. This unique Victorian engineering marvel gently carries passengers up the cliff with minimal effort, revealing breathtaking coastal panoramas as you rise. At the top, Lynton offers sweeping views across the Bristol Channel, attractive shops, galleries and welcoming cafés. The wide pavements and relaxed atmosphere make it ideal for leisurely exploration at your own pace. Benches and viewpoints invite you to pause and admire the scenery, while the town’s characterful streets retain a timeless appeal. Returning to the hotel mid afternoon for time at leisure.

DAY 3
After breakfast today we board the coach for a visit to Quince Honey Farm.  This award-winning attraction provides a fascinating insight into the world of honeybees and has been a popular excursion choice. Most of the experience is indoors or on level pathways, allowing guests to explore at a comfortable pace. Engaging exhibits, live bee displays and informative talks reveal the remarkable life of the hive in an easy-to-follow and enjoyable way. There’s plenty of seating throughout, making it simple to pause and take in the surroundings. The excellent on-site restaurant serves excellent snacks and hot drinks whilst the well-stocked shop offers a wide range of honey products, gifts and local treats. Returning to the hotel at lunchtime for a free afternoon in the town. Entrance included.

DAY 4
Another lovely excursion today. Discover the quiet beauty of RHS Garden Rosemoor - relaxation, gentle strolls, and autumnal colour. As the season turns, Rosemoor becomes a haven of calm — with rich late blooms, sculptural plant forms and peaceful pathways that invite you to explore at a comfortable pace.

Spread across rolling Devon countryside, the gardens at Rosemoor offer accessible, level routes framed by dramatic shrubbery and vibrant foliage. November’s softer light and cooler air make it ideal for gentle walking and photography, while strategically placed benches and rest points ensure comfort throughout your visit. Whether you’re enjoying the tranquillity of the Dell, browsing the seasonal displays in the Glasshouse, or taking in views from the Riverside Walk, there’s always something to delight the senses.

Warm up in the welcoming Gardeners’ Kitchen Café with light lunch, refreshing hot drinks, and locally sourced treats. The well-stocked Garden Shop is great for finding unique gifts and gardening inspiration too.

Entrance included in holiday price. RHS Member discount - £10.
