Set in over 1000 acres of stunning 18th century parkland designed by Capability Brown and home of the Earl of Carnarvon, Highclere has been described as the finest Victorian House in existence and now, of course, is known all around the world, as the home of Downton Abbey. Created by Sir Charles Barry who also designed the Houses of Parliament, the castle has a magnificent library and drawing room with the highlight being The Saloon with its 50ft vaulted ceilings. 

We also include admission to the Egyptian Exhibition. In 1922, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun at Luxor - a massive event in modern history. There is an excellent exhibition at the castle spread over six rooms cataloguing the Earl’s fascination with Egypt including a magnificent reproduction of the sarcophagus.

Outside, you can explore the beautiful gardens and parkland. Tearoom on site offering sandwiches, cakes and freshly baked scones. Picnics are not permitted in the grounds or gardens. These can be eaten in the parking area. Very limited places.
