A new hotel destination for us in 2023 – but returning to a very familiar region – beautiful South Wales.
It is an area steeped in history and culture from ancient civilisations, through the Romans, the Normans and right in to the modern era. And it is not hard to see the attraction of the region. From the stunning Brecon Beacons to verdant rolling countryside and river valleys to the striking coastline – a mix of rocky coves and enormous wide, long sandy beaches – this is undoubtedly one of the most scenic areas of Britain. Dotted through the region are lovely historic towns, built up to follow many of the industries which cropped up over the ages.
With two National Parks in the area, we have been left with a wonderful legacy to explore.
This hotel has been awarded a Travellers' Choice 2022 Award - meaning they consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor for enjoyment and value for money.
DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 7.30/8.45am, sit back, relax and enjoy the journey on board our modern touring coach. Comfort stops on the way including an extended stop for lunch before arriving at the hotel in Llanelli late afternoon.
DAY 2
Enjoy a delicious breakfast before we head off for the day. We will be joined by our knowledgeable local tour guide for a day exploring the wonderful Gower Peninsula. The peninsula became the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 and is an outstanding natural environment with dramatic coastline, iconic and award-winning beaches, heathland, limestone grassland, water marshes, dunes and oak woodlands. Main stop during the day in the charming coastal resort town of Mumbles. Great place to find somewhere nice to eat as well as a source of world-class ice cream! There's a lighthouse that was built in 1794, as well as a Victorian pier - well worth a visit.
DAY 3
A day of history and stunning scenery. Heading inland to Dinefwr Park managed by the National Trust. This stunning 800 acre estate on the outskirts of the old farming town of Llandeilo in the beautiful Tywi Valley has extensive grounds, gardens, the ruined remains of Dinefwr Castle plus the manor house, Newton House. Entrance to the Park & House included. Plenty of time here – there is also a NT café on site. Afterwards we head north with a drive into the stunning Brecon Beacons. Absolutely stunning scenery to round off the day before returning to the hotel.
DAY 4
Enjoy a lovely breakfast at the hotel before we head in to Swansea. The second-largest city in Wales, Swansea evolved thanks to the export of copper, iron and coal earning the city its nickname – Copperopolis. Plenty to see around the centre with some lovely parks and great shopping. As the birthplace of the World-famous Welsh writer and poet, Dylan Thomas there is a burgeoning arts and cultural scene. Head for the rejuvenated waterfront and marina area where there are plenty of coffee shops and eateries to choose from and some excellent museum to discover including the excellent National Waterfront Museum.
DAY 5
We depart the hotel in the morning and have comfort stops as required including a main extended stop for lunch before arriving back in the local area around 4.30pm.
