Located in the heart of North East England, Durham City is a historic jewel at the heart of the region and the proud capital of County Durham. The city is looped by the River Wear which encircles the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Durham Cathedral and Castle. The county has many attractions including the award winning Beamish Museum which explores the mining &
industrial heritage of the region. Returning to the excellent 4* Redworth Hall Hotel set in the County Durham countryside.
To the west, the Durham Dales is made up of Teesdale and Weardale and is a peaceful, rich and varied landscape of moors, hills and valleys dotted with picturesque villages and market towns. A marvellous destination for a lovely holiday.
DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 7.30am we have comfort stops as required before arriving at the hotel late afternoon. Settle into your room before dinner – 3 courses with choice of menu
DAY 2
After breakfast we head to Durham. We will be met by our local tour guide for a short walking tour of this wonderful Heritage city including views of Durham Cathedral, a breathtaking example of Romanesque architecture and one of the finest Norman buildings in the world. Durham has a lovely atmosphere with riverside walks and plenty of excellent shopping. Free
time after to explore at leisure.
DAY 3
A superb day today as we are joined by our excellent local guide for an enjoyable commentary as we travel through dramatic scenery. We head for the charming town of Barnard Castle and visit Bowes Museum. A surprise to see a French Chateau in this part of the world – housing a stunning collection of European art and a famous mechanical Silver Swan. We continue with a tour of the wonderful Durham Dales. A memorable day out.
DAY 4
Excursion to the award winning Beamish Living Museum. Experience how the Industrial Revolution transformed agricultural life in the region. Walk the streets of the past as costumed folk bring the Town, Pit Village & Home Farm back to life. The buildings are not replicas, but have been rebuilt, brick by brick, from around the region giving a real sense of history. There’s even a working tram line which you can use! Always hugely popular with our customers. Entrance included.
DAY 5
After breakfast we head home with refreshment stops on route. Returning to the local area around 6.00pm.
