ITALY - Lake Como - Fri 23rd Sept 2016

One of the most famous of the big Lakes in northern Italy, Lake Como is 50 km long, slender but extremely deep. Like the other lakes, Lake Como has been popular as a tourist resort since the Romans and with the natural breathtaking scenery, wooded lakeside slopes and crystal clear blue waters it is not hard to see why. 

It was here that the rich and famous chose to build their sumptuous holiday villas, some of the finest in the world and to this day they still come - most famously perhaps currently is George Clooney who loves the place! 

As is usual with the lakes, the best way to travel is by boat. Our hotel is very close to the jetty, so its easy for you to come and go as you please - to really relax and enjoy your holiday.

DAY 1
After being collected from your home around 6.30am we travel to Metz via the Eurotunnel with comfort stops as required. Overnight hotel is the Ibis Metz Nord - set 3 course evening 

meal included.

DAY 2
Beautiful day travelling today as we pass through the amazing mountain scenery of Switzerland before descending in to Italy.  Arriving at our hotel on the lake shore early evening.

DAYS 3 to 6
During your stay at Lake Como we have included 2 excursions included in the price of the holiday. Our local guide will join us for a spectacular excursion over the Swiss border to Lake Lugano. One of the most beautiful of all the big lakes, Lugano is no more than 3km wide at any point. We shall also include a short excursion just along the lake to Villa Balbianello which has appeared in many Hollywood films, perhaps most famously in Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. For the remainder of your time - relax and explore the lake by boat. The hotel is located close to the ferryboats which take you to the 3 prettiest towns on the lake - they form a triangle across the lake. Beautiful Bellagio lies at the tip of Lake Como’s central peninsula directly opposite the hotel and has excellent shopping and restaurants. Just up the coast from the hotel is Mennaggio which has a lovely waterfront with outdoor cafes and across the lake is Varenna, known for it’s traditional coloured architecture. Amazingly, just behind the Grand Hotel is the Villa Carlotta, one of the most beautiful on the lake with stunning gardens to explore. Your drivers will be on hand if you need any help.

DAY 7
We leave Lake Como behind and begin the journey home with plenty of comfort stops as required before arriving at the Ibis Metz Nord hotel again. Set 3 course evening meal included. 

DAY 8
We head back for the mid afternoon Eurotunnel. Continuing to be dropped off at your home around 8.30pm.

Dating back to 1820, the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia has retained an elegant style with chandeliers and stucco ceilings. Located on the lakeside just 4km from the lovely town of Menaggio the hotel boasts lovely views, particularly from the roof terrace. The hotel also has lovely gardens with an outdoor swimming pool. All bedrooms are comfortable with either lake or garden views - supplement applies for lake view - subject to availability. All rooms have en suite bathroom with bath or shower, air conditioning, TV, minibar, hairdryer and safe. The restaurant offers a spectacular panorama of the lake and serves a 3 course evening meal with a buffet for starter and dessert and choice of main course (except 1st night). Lifts to all floors and complimentary WiFi.
