2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and to commemorate her extraordinary life and literary legacy, Winchester is hosting a series of special events at selected venues across the city. Jane Austen was born in 1775 in the village of Steventon in Hampshire and spent her first 25 years in the County. She later returned, living first in Southampton, and then in the cottage now known as Jane Austen’s House in the village of Chawton, where she lived for the last eight years of her life. Jane died in Winchester and her grave is in Winchester Cathedral.
This year there are special exhibitions at The Gallery at The Arc and the City Museum which promise to be well worth a visit for avid fans. Please check out all the detail online - booking may be required.
