Join us on this fantastic 7 day holiday as we tour through beautiful landscape on route to our excellent 4* hotel in the town of Grantown-on-Spey. Located in the Highlands of Scotland and nestled within the scenic Cairngorms National Park, Grantown is a traditional Highland town, gateway to the Speyside whisky region which is home to some of the most famous names in the industry. The town boasts historical Georgian and Victorian architecture. The town was originally planned in the 18th century and has a rich heritage, offering access to community-owned woodlands, picturesque river trails and a range of independent shops, restaurants, and pubs, making it a welcoming spot for visitors.

The town is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful scenery of the region. During our stay we have included a visit to Inverness - Capital of the Highlands, a 2 hour boat trip to see the wildlife along the Moray Firth, a trip on the Cairngorms Mountain Railway, a visit to the world famous Glenlivit Distillery and a visit to one of the finest castles in Scotland - Ballindalloch. 

During the holiday we have an overnight hotel stop in each direction allowing for reasonable start times and relaxed travel times. Just sit back, relax and let Scotland soak in. We are sure you will want to return!

DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 7.30/9.00am, sit back and relax as we travel north with comfort stops and a main stop for lunch. Arriving at our overnight hotel in Preston early evening in good time to relax before dinner.

3* Holiday Inn Preston - Offering modern comfort in the heart of Preston, making for a convenient base if you want to explore the centre of town during your stay. The hotel’s 133 rooms are designed for relaxation, with comfortable beds, a choice of pillows, and bedside USB outlets. Free WiFi, Flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Modern bathrooms - all shower over bath - no separate showers available. All single rooms are double/twin for sole use. Your evening meal consists of 3 courses with a choice of menu - main course served buffet style. Full English Buffet Breakfast. Passenger lift and porterage included.


DAY 2
Enjoy a full English breakfast at the hotel before we continue North - crossing in to Scotland. Comfort stops including a main stop for lunch and then the views really start to open up as we head in to the Highlands. Arriving in the town of Grantown-on-Spey and the superb Grant Arms Hotel for our 4 nights stay. Plenty of time to settle in to your rooms and relax before dinner. The food is a particular highlight of your stay at this hotel - excellent quality.


DAY 3
After a full cooked breakfast, we head for Inverness - The Capital of The Highlands. Our first stop is the marina where we board one of the Dolphin Spirit boats for a trip on the Moray Firth. On this 2 hour wildlife cruise, enjoy the picturesque Inverness firth to the world famous Chanonry point lighthouse with stunning views, local history, and rich wildlife, all delivered through engaging onboard commentary. Includes popular dolphin watching spots so we will keep our fingers crossed! Returning for free time in Inverness, rich with historical, cultural, scenic attractions. Highlights include Inverness Castle on the River Ness, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, St. Andrew's Cathedral and there aplenty of places to find something nice for lunch. For shopping, head to the Victorian Market, home to an array of local shops, selling everything from crafts and jewelry to Highland specialties. It’s an excellent spot to pick up souvenirs or experience the local culture.


DAY 4
A day for spectacular views! Leaving the hotel in the morning, enjoy the changing  countryside as we travel high up in to the Cairngorms National Park. Today we have included a ride on the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, located near Aviemore which offers stunning views at the top of Cairngorm Mountain. This funicular railway only takes about 10 minutes to Ptarmigan Top Station, 150 meters below the mountain summit which has a café, a panoramic restaurant, a mountain exhibition, and a viewing terrace with incredible vistas over the Scottish Highlands. Just to note - to protect the plateau visitors are limited to the visitor centre area only. Plenty of time to enjoy the wonderful views before returning down and back to the hotel for some free time to explore the town or relax in the hotel.

 

DAY 5
Make sure you have a big breakfast this morning as our first destination today is the Glenlivit Distillery. This Original Tour last for around 1 1/2 hours and this immersive experience takes you on a journey through Glenlivet's iconic distillery, unveiling the secrets behind one of the world's most beloved single malts. The tour begins with a warm welcome and a rich history of Glenlivet, followed by a fascinating walk through the production process, from malting to maturation. You'll step inside the atmospheric warehouses, where whisky quietly ages to perfection, and learn from passionate guides who bring the story of Glenlivet to life. Cap off your visit with an exclusive tasting, where you'll savor the smooth, complex flavors that define Glenlivet. Whether you're a whisky connoisseur or a curious traveler, this tour offers an unforgettable insight into the world of premium Scotch. 

Afterwards, we step into centuries of Scottish heritage with a visit to Ballindalloch Castle & Gardens, one of Scotland’s most enchanting and historically rich castles. Known as the "Pearl of the North," this remarkable 16th-century castle is still a family residence, offering an intimate glimpse into the life and legacy of Clan Macpherson-Grant. Explore beautifully preserved rooms filled with antique treasures, portraits, and tapestries that tell the story of generations past. Outside, the castle grounds are a paradise of carefully curated gardens. Wander through vibrant displays in the walled garden, peaceful rock gardens, and serene woodland walks, all set against the stunning backdrop of Speyside. Charming tea room and explore the gift shop for unique mementos. Fantastic and very memorable day out. Entrance to both attractions included in holiday cost


DAY 6
We start the journey home, plenty more scenery today so sit back and enjoy the travel. We will make an extended stop for lunch and have other comfort breaks for a relaxing journey. Returning to the Holiday Inn Preston - arriving late afternoon. 3 course dinner with choice & breakfast included. 


DAY 7
After breakfast, we continue the journey home with comfort stops on route. Returning to the local area around approximately 5.00pm.

In 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed here and the hotel has successfully married modern comforts whilst retaining its character. The large, traditional restaurant is in a beautiful room with high ceilings and overlooks the high street. The bar and lounge areas are cosy and relaxing. Lift to most floors but some have a few steps to the rooms.
