Based in the centre of the Forest of Dean, this tour delves into the mystery, heritage and charm, that makes this region unique and a real joy to uncover. Plenty to enjoy so come along for a lovely holiday away with some of the best views in Britain.
DAY 1
After being collected from your convenient local pick up point (approx. 8.15/9.30am), we have comfort stops as required including a main stop for lunch in Marlborough. Excellent town to potter around with plenty of choice for lunch. Arriving at the Bells Hotel late afternoon with time to settle in to your room before dinner.
DAY 2
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. Boarding the coach, we first head for one of the most famous views of the region. After parking in the forest car park, the spectacular views at Symonds Yat Rock are only a 5/10 minute easy walk away along gravel and wooden paths. Well worth making the effort to see this beautiful horse shoe view of the River Wye. Continuing with a lovely drive and crossing just over the border into Wales to the ancient market town of Chepstow. Nice place to find somewhere for lunch and we have also included a visit to the impressive ruined castle. Originally built in 1067 Chepstow Castle is one of the oldest stone structures standing in Britain and for more than six centuries was home to some of the wealthiest and most powerful men of the medieval and Tudor ages. Entrance Fee included.
DAY 3
Wonderful day today as we are joined by our local guide for a memorable tour through the Wye Valley. From the mountains of mid-Wales, the river flows south for some 150 miles, becoming part of the border between Wales and England with the lower stretches meandering for 58 miles through the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Various stops during the day including a main stop for lunch plus we have included a visit to the beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey on the banks of the river. Wonderful day out.
DAY 4
Enjoyable, relaxing final day away. Boarding the coach, we head for the town of Ledbury. Steeped in history and blessed with the charming, historic black & white timber framed buildings of the region including the iconic 17th-century Market Hall. It's a timeless destination which has a lovely atmosphere. Enjoy some free time here before we head to Hereford. It is a great town to explore on foot. We drop right in the centre, close the hugely impressive medieval Cathedral. If you head inside you can see the Hereford Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world plotted in the 1300s on calf skin parchment - one of the largest in the world. There are historic timber-framed houses and buildings, good shopping and plenty of coffee shops and eateries for lunch.
DAY 5
After breakfast we home with an extended lunch stop in the Cotswolds. Returning back to the local area around 4.00/5.00pm.
