The Italian Lake District boasts much of Italy's most breathtaking scenery and stunning lakeside beaches. With a majestic backdrop of alpine peaks, and wooded slopes and lush valleys diving in to the crystal clear waters, Lake Maggiore enjoys a wonderful climate and is a premier destination for a memorable holiday.

As usual with the lakes, it is best to explore by boat for excellent views of the ancient small towns and villages which are dotted around the shore. One of the major tourist attractions of the entire region are the Borromean Islands which are close to our host town, Stresa.

Stresa is a popular lakeside town offering promenades, shops, cafes, woodland walks with panoramic lake views, botanical gardens, churches, markets and much more. Stresa has its fair share of Villas built by the rich and famous aristocrats of Europe and is a main hub for the ferry boats to take you anywhere on the lake. You can enjoy amazing views on the 20 minute cable car ride leading to the summit of Monte Mottarone, with the Giardino Botanico Alpine Gardens on route to the top.

DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 5.45/7.00am we travel to the Metz area of northern France via the lunchtime Eurotunnel crossing. Plenty of stops during the day for a comfortable journey with a chance to have some refreshment and eat. Arriving early evening at the Hotel Mercure Centre Metz. Very good standard Mercure Hotel with a 3 course evening meal included - set 3 course menu.

DAY 2
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we board the coach for a memorable day. For many, these days are the highlight of the holiday and show the advantages of a touring coach holiday taken in good company with your fellow travellers. The road climbs as we head in to The Alps and pass through the amazing alpine mountain scenery before descending in to Italy. Arriving at our hotel in Stresa early evening. Enjoy a complimentary welcome drink and settle in to your accommodation before dinner.  

DAYS 3 to 6
Having arrived in this beautiful location - now is the time to sit back, relax and enjoy those stunning views. Plenty of free leisure time to enjoy the hospitality of the hotel - take a dip in the pool and relax on the terrace or in the garden. Stroll along the lake front in to Stresa - lovely town to potter about with a good variety of shops. Of course, make sure to find a nice pavement cafe bar where you can have an Italian coffee or may be something a little stronger and watch the world go by.

We have also included two excursions for you whilst in the resort - 

Joined by a local guide for a coach tour of this most beautiful region - no doubt seeing some of the very best viewpoints and learning some of the local history.

We also included a special excursion by ferryboat to the Borromean Islands which lie just off Stresa. We visit Isola Bella - the Beautiful Island, with a chance to see the fantastically baroque Borromeo Palace and the remarkable terraced gardens. Absolutely stunning location - a holiday highlight.

Additional excursions may be arranged which may incur additional in resort fees.

DAY 7
We leave Lake Maggiore behind and begin the journey home with plenty of comfort stops and beautiful scenery along the way. Returning to Metz, this time to the Novotel Metz Hauconcourt - includes evening meal with set 3 course menu included.

DAY 8
We head back for the mid afternoon Eurotunnel/ferry crossing. Continuing to return to the local area around 8.30pm.

Returning to The Astoria - situated in a wonderful position on the lake promenade of Stresa, just a 5 minute walk from the town centre and with spectacular views of the Alps and of the Borromean Islands. This family run hotel has super friendly staff with nothing too much trouble. With a stylish, traditional decor throughout and modern comforts with facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, gardens and terrace where you can enjoy an al fresco drink. 

In the excellent restaurant there will be an extensive buffet and a 3 course evening meal - as detailed in the itinerary..
