QUALITY HOLIDAY IN A SPECIAL HOTEL

Step back in time staying in the historic Petwood Hotel, home of the legendary RAF 617 Dambuster Squadron!

During WWII the hotel was the base for the infamous flight crew and the hotel has very much retained much of the atmosphere of a bygone era. Based in the charming village of Woodhall Spa - lovely little place to stroll around with attractions including the famous Kinema in The Woods.

Lincolnshire is an outstanding area of ever-changing landscapes and exciting scenery, shaped by a rich heritage, passionate people and intriguing traditions. The county is dotted with many aviation museums and heritage centres including the renowned Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre and RAF Bases including Scampton, home to the Red Arrows. As well as aviation the county also has some charming towns, lovely countryside and Big Skies!

This hotel has been awarded a Travellers' Choice 2022 Award - meaning they consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor for enjoyment and value for money.

Come along for an exciting holiday away!

DAY 1
Collected from your local pick up point around 7.30/8.30am, we have comfort stops on route before arriving at the hotel late afternoon. Time to settle into the hotel and take a stroll around the grounds before dinner.

DAY 2
Lovely day out today as we head for the historic city of Lincoln. We have included a short guided walk on arrival to gain a useful insight in to the history of the city. One of England's great cities with charming medieval and Georgian streets, a Norman Castle and the majestic Cathedral. Check out Steep Hill which leads up to the cathedral - an historic cobbled street lined with lovely shops or the exciting Brayford Wharf waterfront area - great choice of places for lunch.

DAY 3
A great day out exploring the aviation heritage of the county. In the morning we head to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in East Kirkby. This superb museum is a step back in time – the closest experience you will get to a World War Two Bomber airfield and the only place in the country to have a Lancaster Bomber on an original wartime airfield. Highlights also include an original Control Tower and the evocative Memorial Chapel. For lunch, where else but the NAAFI!! It is currently scheduled to be a Lancaster Taxy run day so hopefully we should hear the Lancaster engines roar! Entrance price included.

DAY 4
A free morning today so a chance to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, perhaps take a stroll around the grounds or in to town. We then head off to nearby RAF Coningsby - home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF). The aircraft are regularly seen at events commemorating World War II, upon British State occasions and at air displays throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Viewing the historic aircraft is available only by guided tour - included in your holiday. You will be shown around the hangar by volunteer guides, many of whom have firsthand experience of the aircraft. Tours of the hangar last approximately one to one and half hours. Within the hangar, you may see: Lancaster PA474, Douglas Dakota ZA947, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, and two Chipmunks. Please note that due to display duties it is possible that not all the aircraft will be on display. Entrance price included.

DAY 5

We leave the hotel and have comfort stops as required and a stop for lunch before arriving back in the local area around 4.30/5.30pm and returning to your local drop off point.

Meal plan - Dinner, Bed & Breakfast

3* Petwood Hotel

Located in the charming Lincolnshire village of Woodhall Spa, the Petwood Hotel has certainly played its part in modern history. Originally built in the early 1900s this substantial country house is surrounded by 30 acres of mature woodland, extensive lawns and some of the finest gardens in the county. Indeed, the wonderful gardens were originally designed by the celebrated Harold Peto and are open for the public to visit. The house is built in a Tudor to Jacobean style with a lavish interior of oak wall panelling, leather chairs and grand staircases.

The Royal Air Force requisitioned the hotel during the Second World War and it became the Officers Mess for 617 Squadron - the famous Dambusters. Much of the memorabilia from the time has been retained and displayed around the hotel, particularly in The Squadron Bar. Relax around the hotel in a comfortable armchair or head to the terrace overlooking the gardens for a  welcome drink.

All bedrooms are decorated in a classic style with modern comforts including en suite bathroom with luxury toiletries from The White Company, Hospitality tray with tea, herbal tea, coffee, drinking chocolate, water and biscuits, Ironing board and iron, Complimentary Wi-Fi, Television, Hairdryer, Fan and USB phone charging sockets.

Meals are served in the elegant restaurant with the hotel enjoying a good reputation for good quality food. Enjoy a delicious full breakfast to start the day and in the evening, you will be served 3 courses with a choice of menu.

Porterage included. Room upgrades subject to availability. Passenger lift to nearly all bedrooms.
