Encircled by two miles of Roman and Medieval walls, Chester is one of England’s historical gems and has proved to be a very popular destination with our customers.

Situated on the River Dee, close to the Welsh border, Chester has 2000 years of history and is one of Britain’s Heritage Cities with a compact city centre easy to explore on foot. The itinerary for this holiday has always proved popular with our customer and for 2022 we have tweaked the days to add a little extra! This terrific holiday includes a full day in Chester, a lovely day round the charming town of Llangollen with a lovely extended horse drawn canal trip PLUS a visit to the new highly anticipated RHS Bridgewater. Highly recommended.


DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 7.30/8.45am we have comfort stops as required before arriving at the hotel late afternoon. Settle into your room – 3 course dinner with choice of menu.


DAY 2
Enjoy an extensive full breakfast before we head off for a memorable day out in the charming Welsh town of Llangollen. Famous as the closest town to Thomas Telford’s engineering marvel, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. We first board a modern purpose-built canal boat for a 2 hour horse drawn cruise to the remarkable Horseshoe Falls on the River Dee. This is possibly the most beautiful length of canal you will ever see and the horse drawn trip is definitely the most peaceful and relaxing way to see it. Afterwards, free time in Llangollen. Find somewhere nice for lunch and soak in the heritage of this charming town. After, we head on to the Trevor Basin - site of the famous aqueduct. Lovely day out. Canal boat trip included.


DAY 3
After breakfast we head into the centre of Chester. We will have an excellent 2 hour panoramic coach tour of the city with our knowledgeable local guide. Learning about the fascinating history of this town before free time in the city centre for you to explore at leisure. Plenty of choices for lunch. Later, we have included an excellent 1/2 hour boat trip along the River Dee. We head upstream, past Grosvenor Park, and through the picturesque suburb of Boughton. Passing stunning riverside homes and gardens, and hear about the fascinating history of the River Dee and its surroundings. Look out for local wildlife such as swans, moorhens, and kingfishers if you’re lucky. Great way to finish the day before returning to the hotel. Boat trip included


DAY 4
Fantastic final excursion day out as we head towards Manchester and the much anticipated new RHS Garden - Bridgewater. The result of a multi-million pound transformation of the historic Worsley New Hall estate, a huge 154 acre site is now home to 11 stunning garden spaces, including the largest Victorian walled garden in England. The project was overseen by renowned landscape gardener Tom Stuart-Smith, the gardens bring together world-class planting, community initiatives stunning woodland and much much more. There are 3 kilometres of pathways that lead on to the estate’s woodland, where you can find the wooden bridges that span the Chinese Streamside Garden, as well as Ellesmere Lake with its historic island grotto. Subject to availability, we will include a 1 hour guided tour by one of the volunteers. Entrance fee included.  


DAY 5
We head home with comfort stops including a main stop for lunch before before arriving back to your local drop off point around 5.00pm

Holiday Inn Chester South

This 3* Hotel offers comfortable and spacious accommodation and is situated on the southern edge of Chester allowing easy excursion opportunities and has recently undergone extensive refurbishment. You can relax in the lounge bar and enjoy a swim in the large swimming pool in the Spirit Health Club.

There are views of the Welsh Mountains from the restaurant where there is a choice of menu and a full English breakfast. All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with Colour TV, phone, tea/coffee and hairdryer. No lift but all bedrooms on ground floor - restaurant on 1st floor. Includes porterage.
