Located in the heart of North East England, County Durham is blessed with natural beauty and a wealth of historic and industrial heritage. Durham City is a jewel at the heart of the region and the proud capital of the county. The city is looped by the River Wear which encircles the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Durham Cathedral and Castle. The county has so many attractions including the hugely impressive Raby Castle and the popular Beamish Museum and not forgetting the beautiful countryside - a rich and varied landscape of moors, hills and valleys dotted with picturesque villages and market towns. Returning to the excellent 4* Redworth Hall Hotel set in the County Durham countryside.

A marvelous destination for a lovely holiday.

DAY 1
After being collected from your local pick up point around 6.30/7.45am we have comfort stops as required before arriving at the hotel late afternoon. Settle into your room before dinner – 3 courses with choice of menu

DAY 2
Excursion to the award winning Beamish Living Museum. Experience how the Industrial Revolution transformed agricultural life in the region. Walk the streets of the past as costumed folk bring the Town, Pit Village & Home Farm back to life. The buildings are not replicas, but have been rebuilt, brick by brick, from around the region giving a real sense of history. There’s even a working tram line which you can use! Always hugely popular with our customers. Entrance included.

DAY 3
In the morning we head for Durham City. Dropping in the centre and allowing plenty of time to explore this Heritage city. And there is much to see - Durham Cathedral is a breathtaking example of Romanesque architecture and one of the finest Norman buildings in the world. Close by stands Durham Castle – which is now part of the University. Durham has a lovely atmosphere – wonderful cobbled streets, lined by interesting shops, plenty of coffee shops and a network of riverside walks.

DAY 4
Lovely excursion today to Raby Castle. One of the most impressive and beautiful castles in England, built mainly in the 14th century by the Nevill family. It was the childhood home of Cicely,  mother of Kings Edward IV and Richard III, scene of the plotting of the Rising of the North and a Parliamentary stronghold during the Civil War. The exterior with medieval towers, terrace and embattled walls dates back to the 11th Century. Situated in the foothills of the North Pennines, the castle is surrounded by a 200 acre Park where Red and Fallow Deer and Longhorn Cattle graze. The beautiful walled gardens will be closed for entry in 2022 as they are being redeveloped but there is still much to see with picturesque views of the Castle. Inside there is a fabulous art collection, Meissen porcelain, tapestries, furniture and furnishings. Excellent Tearooms and Gift Shop. Entrance included. After lunchtime we have a special addition to the day with the opportunity to see some of the best waterfalls in the country. The High Force Waterfalls are around 30 minutes drive away and are relatively easy to walk to. Still part of the Raby Estate, we have included the entrance fee. For those who feel they cannot make the 15 minute walk, facilities are available at the hotel where we park the coach.

DAY 5
After breakfast we head home with refreshment stops on route. Returning to the local area around 6.00pm.
